Portland’s Iconic Rooftop Lounge
The Top of the East has been part of Portland, Maine’s rich history since the rooftop bar and lounge opened as part of the iconic Eastland Park Hotel. Since 1963, the Top has been at the center of nightlife in Portland and played host to many memorable events for generations of patrons.
Henry P. Rines envisioned the grand hotel in Congress Square in the early 1920’s. Designed by local architect Herbert Rhodes on June 15th 1927, after one year of construction and $2 million dollars, the doors opened to the 369 room Eastland Hotel. It was the largest hotel in New England and quickly became a landmark in the city of Portland.
